an inclusive setting

We have been based within Green Croft Children’s Centre since it opened in 2004 and we work in partnership with the services provided by the centre.

We are an inclusive setting and work in partnership with Marlbrook Primary School, providing wrap-around care for children attending both settings and enabling smooth transition for children leaving the setting to attend reception class.
"My son has been in the snuggler's room for a year now and we love it. I love their room with natural and realistic things to play with, and his teachers are great. He always has a good time, they share daily photos and updates with parents. He's happy to go in and happy when he gets picked up, and always seems well cared for.." - Lauren S (via daynurseries.co.uk)

SNUGGLERS – 6 months to 18 MONTHS

Where our youngest children can explore a variety of activities supported by a ‘designated key person’ approach. Our equipment and activities are age appropriate to allow the children to make independent choices to develop a foundation of skills based on nurture and encouragement. These skills are then developed within the Explorers.

We also offer a sleep room for children to independently choose when to sleep, and for sleep time requested by parents for their own child’s needs. The secret garden has interesting activities for young children to explore and investigate.

ExplorerS – 18 MONTHS to 3 years

We provide a high staff/child ratio to ensure quality of care at all times. Children can explore a range of creative experiences, which help to further develop their senses through a variety of media including clay, ice, paint and cornflour.

Offering a language rich environment, children develop their speech, language and communication skills. Using small group activities, supported by highly qualified staff, children learn social skills and are also encouraged to make independent choices.

Children are able to access the outside area through our ‘free-slow’ approach, which promotes a physical and healthy lifestyle using both their own garden area and also the large nursery garden.

Skills learnt within the Explorers provide a good base of Prime Areas understanding and development, preparing the children for their transition to the Discoverers.

Discoverers – 3 years to 5 years

The room is set out to encompass all aspects of early years learning and development, within a stimulating and creative environment. Equipment and resources are specially selected following the nursery planning and child interests.

Projects are born from children’s ideas and extended throughout all areas within the nursery. An emphasis is placed on a ‘free-flow’ approach, where children are encouraged to explore the wide range of activities available to them. Our separate ‘garden room’ (an undercover, outside area which brings the outside inside) represents the Atelier (studio workshop) found in the Italian Reggio Emilia Nursery.

Children can use their skills and imagination using a large variety of creative materials and resources. Also located in this room is our woodwork area where the children can use real tools and resources, whilst wearing protective clothing for safety. Our beautifully landscaped garden offers an allotment for growing seeds and understanding growing cycles, a large sand area, a hard surface for using outdoor equipment, and a play system for role-play, exploration and gross motor skill development.

There are also many opportunities for the children to explore the natural environment and socialise with children of all ages within the nursery and get messy in the mud kitchen.
